What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?
When I speak of mindfulness I am not referring to spirituality or any type of mediation.
What I mean is stepping aside and just stopping for a minute. Almost like smelling the roses where there are no roses. Pressing the pause button even when you can’t afford to squeeze one extra minute into your life unless it has a name.
Those negative, depression feelings are not health to dwell on, to go over them in your mind. They begin to take a home in your thoughts, those unwelcomed guests that never want to leave. Soon they are with you when you wake up, there in the day in every waking moment until you cannot breathe for thinking about all negativity in your life.
I am there too and I understand. So, I learn to stop and literally look around. For example: at the street corner , don’t cross the road wait and just watch traffic go by. Look out the window and see the wind. You can see it uou know, you can see what it is can do by way of movement.
Take that breath and go back to your life. I read somewhere that the pause helps the brain to recharge when it is trying to cope.
It may work or it may not but it will give you a chance to relax for one moment.
One thing more I do is to pray. I have a special life as a born again Believer where I get to speak to God and He hears me. That is faith and it is truth. Nevertheless, I still get those dark thoughts where depression sets in but He always finds a way for me to cope when I cry to Him.
This is me. It may not be you but it works for me.
