Death of a friend…

The home call of a family friend, someone I have known from childhood, puts life into perspective.

Life is so fleeting with all the ups and downs. Yet, within the shadows of these trials and tribulations, there are moments of joy and blessing where there is singing and laughter. The complexities of living are something to hold fast and to give God thanks for all he has done and all he will do.

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loaded us with benefits. Psalm 68 verse 19.

Who is God?

For The Moment#124

Who is God?

When we think about God, what do we know?

We know his works, all the things he does and have done.

We think about his character.

We think about where he is now?

Sure, this is all fine, but who is God to me personally?

How do I know him?

Do I trust him?

Do I love him in all sincerity, or is it for what I can get?

These are questions that might challenge us all as children of God.

Our challenge for the rest of the year is to look to God and establish a deep relationship with him.

For The Moment…123

The faithfulness of God is a curious thing. We will never understand it. We will never wear it out.

He remains faithful while we fall away; such is his love towards us. We have nothing to fear because there is nothing that can separate us from his love.

If we abide not, yet he remains faithful; he can not deny himself.

2 Timothy 2 verse 13.

For The Moment…78

From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Psalm 61 verse 2 and 3

The world around us is in turmoil. There are wars and rumors of wars. There is fighting in the streets, killings, drugs, trafficking and more taxes, and less money. This all can be overwhelming. But God is present. He promises to never leave or forsake us.

When the going gets tough, he does not and will not walk away. He is the fourth man in the fire, covering  us from all things.

We may go through the problem, but he will bring us out on the other side of the problem on dry land.

Great is the God we serve.

He is worthy to be praised.

The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Psalm 53 verse 1

We try to sneak past God by doing good deeds, hoping we will get to heaven. But we can’t because God knows our hearts, our true motives.

Sure, we can be moved with compassion to give to the poor, to donate to some charity research foundation on the cusp of finding a  cure. We show true kindness, but many times when we are not looking, we are hard hearted in other parts of life.

We are called good but are we good all the time?

God knows the heart, and we can’t  hoodwink him. Motives are measured in heaven.

For The Moment…34

Praise in the midst of mourning.

I will give thanks unto thee, oh Lord.

To the end, my glory will praise thee for thou turned my mourning into dancing.

When I looked, I saw that weeping only lasted for the night because Joy came in the morning.
