Health is wealth

How do you want to retire?

I will be blessed to retire healthy mentally and physically. Hopefully, we will all retire someday. The best thing is to retire well and be happy.

It is best to take care of yourself and enjoy life one day at a time.

Money is always good, too.

You have to eat and pay for rent or some kind of overhead, but if money is fixed, then putting away for the future is essential. Paying off debt is an excellent idea before hanging up the shingles. It is hard to dish out extra money when you don’t have a regular pay cheque to fall back on.

It is best to save your money. Remember, short-term pain means long-term gain.

Diploma Time

Describe one of your favorite moments.

Walking across the stage at my high school commencement was a great moment. Hearing my name being called and taking that diploma from the presenter was amazing.

Then I did it again when I was presented with yet another diploma after my years at university.

Smiling into the camera as my sister snapped a pic with my parents beside me, remembering at that moment that teacher so long before saying I would not make anything of myself.

I’ve come a long way for a shy child who was bullied because of her color and her name. I hated school because of the people who taught with the exception of a few I can count on one hand and still have two fingers left over.

I know now that a good education takes you places, and by the grace of God, the sky is my limit.

I am indeed blessed. That stage and my diploma in hand were one of my favorite moments.

My art…

What are you passionate about?

I do not consider myself an artist, but I love to paint, doodle, and write.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder well if that is the case, my skills leave much to be desired.

I don’t paint for others but for myself as a way to destress. In my writing, I create characters for the world to see. I love creating a world that has the ups and downs of real life. I like having characters work through their own situations and see them grow by their experiences.

In all things, I get to enjoy my craft. It is a wonderful feeling.

Fall or some call it autumn

What is your favorite season of year? Why?

I love the fall. I know some say it is a time when the earth is about to go the sleep. In some countries, not all.

I live in a country where the seasons are marked by the changes in nature.

Fall is beautiful where I live. The leaves on the trees turn color, making a lovely canvas of brightness.

The weather at night gets nippy, the perfect time to start up the fireplace and cuddle up with a good book or with your honey.

I like a good book because I get to put it away whenever I get bored. A honey can be annoying after a while. With a book, I am in control.

Back to fall…

I like the summer, too, with all that heat, perfect welcome after a long, hard winter.

But fall is great because, for some reason it reminds me of change. As the leaves turn colour, they will curl up and eventually fall to the ground. Then the next season begins. One generation passes, making way for the next generation. The cycle of life begins again.

It is a bittersweet time but a pretty time.

Water

What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?

Is water a luxury?

You better believe it.

I call it the elixir of life

With all the problems in the world: natural disasters, war invasions and the like, where you have to take shelter in some camp with strangers, you realise that hot running water, a flushing toilet, a nice clean bed and food are all beautiful luxurious things.

Once you lose these things we take for granted, they become precious.

Next time I take a shower, drink, clean water, or snuggle down in my bed, I will remember I am blessed because these are things no human should be without.

At work?

Who do you spend the most time with?

Nope.

I thought I spent more time with my co-workers at work, but that is not the case.

I spend more time with my family. I love my home life. I know there are others who do not have a good home life, and I feel for those people. Coming home should not be something to dread. Home should be a place where you feel love and support.

If you live alone, then coming home should be a place of refuge and peace, not loneliness and despair.

I am blessed to be in a good place. I like spending time with those I love.

If I had to change my name I would be confused

If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?

Trust me, it doesn’t take much to confuse me.

First of all, I like my name. I have grown into it just fine. It hasn’t been easy, but over time, I’ve  grown to love the meaning and somewhat uniqueness of it.

I would not change it but shorten it to my nickname from my Dad, which is Mimmie.

My name is Jemima. My friends call me Jem or Jemmie along with other names not suitable for print.

I don’t dream of chocolate

Describe your dream chocolate bar.

I don’t like chocolate much. It is not my go-to for an instant high.

I was at an ice cream shop, and looking at the menu, I asked if there was any ice cream that didn’t contain chocolate. The clerk’s mouth fell open for a second or two. When he recovered, he asked if I was a woman. Taken aback, I ask why. He answered that he had never met a woman who didn’t like chocolate.

I don’t hate it.

I will have some chocolate once in a while. When I do want some, I go to the store and purchase some Lindt milk chocolate with almonds. But I will admit I do like Leonardis or Neuhaus chocolates better.

The Cat In The Hat

Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

I believe it is a Dr. Suess book.

I loved it all the way. I liked the words, and the illustrations were great. I also liked Green Eggs and Ham, or was it called Sam I Am? Can’t remember, it was a long time ago.

I just thought everything was cool back then.

I still think it is all cool, Sam I am.

Praying to the Lord

Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.

I have a simple life.

Simple is good. There are no complications when you believe that He rewards those who passionately seek Him.

When I wake up before dawn, even before my world awakes, I get to pray, talk with  the Lord, and thank him for another day of life.

I have so much, yet there are others who have more, but that does not bother me. I do not envy them when I look at my life. Today, my heart is full, and I thank my Lord because he has done so much for me.

It’s so simple just to talk with my Lord. It brings a smile to my face.
