The Passing of My Parents

How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

It hurt a great deal when my parents died. God fulfilled the number of their days, and I trust his calling them to Glory to be with Him, yet I am human and it hurts.

But, I realize that if they stayed, I would not grow spiritually. Even though I am an adult I still have a way to mature. My age is nothing compared to my state of mind. I may be older in body but my mind and understanding need to catch up.

As I look back, I see I can trust in the Lord and rely on Him and not on people.

Play with my dogs

Something on your “to-do list” that never gets done.

These days I am so busy I get very little time to relax. Every morning, I play a little with my dogs, but I feel it is not enough. I put time in my schedule on my days off, but things get in the way that I switch gears and do something else. The look on their faces are enough to make me feel like something lower than a human being.

So this weekend I will do it. Spend real time with the fur babies.

Besides, if I don’t, they may jump ship and bite me .

I love to cook rosti.

What’s your favorite thing to cook?

I love potatoes. I can boil them and serve them with a little butter and sprinkle some herbs.

I can mash them with some garlic.

I can fry them. Yum.

Rosti is cool, something like a potato fritter. I think the name is German. But it is all good. Grated potatoes fried live a pancake, flipped onto the other side and cooked until golden brown. Then, it is served with sour cream or not. Yummmmm.

My first computer? The Old Faithful.

Write about your first computer.

Sounds like my first toy or book.

It was a desktop IBM, and it was great. It was fast, and I spent hours on it writing and doing research. That was a while back.

I would boot it up, listen to it, turn on, and away I went. I miss that old thing. Sometimes, old things are still good and reliable things.

Up, Up, and Away

What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?

Being high above the ground never thrilled me. I don’t like heights. I don’t like flying. What goes up must come down, I always think. However, it is how we come down.

Being on an airplane makes me nauseous. Every flight I have taken, I have experienced turbulence and am really bad at that. Dipping and pitching is not my idea of an easy ride. But if I must fly, I will take a plane ride. Just give me something to relax first. And of course, pray a lot.

Others Always Complaining About Others Complaining…

What do you complain about the most?

I know life isn’t perfect. We all complain, whereas some more than others. It is okay to complain because we all need to vent once in a while. It is good to listen to others, helping them to deal with concerns while moving along a conversation, and it is good to sympathize. But there are some who always complain about everything and anything. Those are the people we all desperately seek to avoid.

It is okay to complain but not all the time and then complain about others complaining about complaining.

There are so many grievouses in this world today.

I have a complaint.

Basketball and Soceer

What are your favorite sports to watch and play?

I like them both to watch and to play. One thing is for sure, I am not good at either sport. No, no, and no again.

I like how fast they are. I like to see the energy of the athletes. You can almost feel it.

One more sport I like is, but it may not be a sport, but because the participants are amazing and display a great deal of energy, it is ballet.

Watching the grace, the leaps, the moving on Pointe, and so much more, I cannot deny this could be considered a sport.

If I Won The Lottery

What would you do if you won the lottery?

If I won the lottery, the first thing I would do is give the Lord thanks, then ask Him for guidance on how to use the winnings.

For sure, I would give to the Lord’s work, pay all household and personal debt, give to my siblings and their families, and give to charity. Then, I will invest and save the rest.

But this is if the winnings of the lottery are money.

The winnings could be like that in Shirley Jackson’s short story called The Lottery. If that’s the case, I think I will pass. Thank you very much.

Books and more books

What books do you want to read?

I would like to read more Victorian novels like something from Wikie Collins or Elizabeth Gaskill. More novels of that period to add to my growing number.

Before We Greet the World

Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.

My favorite and most precious tradition, but I will call it a value, is our family worship. Of course, this is extra to our own morning devotions to the Lord.

As far back as I can remember, and even when my parents worked shift jobs, we will have our family prayer.

Never would they let us go to school or even leave the house without committing our day or our ways to the Lord.

Grown up and on business trips or just away from home, we will do it even after our private devotions just before leaving going outside for the morning.

Dad would do a short prayer and read a verse and ask the Lord for guidance before we leave the house. This would never be long, only about five or so tops.

We all still do this in our individual homes. Then, when we get back home, we never fail to give the Lord thanks for a good journey and his mercies. Even before we drive off in the car, we quickly commit our way to the Lord.

It is a blessing to put him first.

The family that prays together does stay together.
