How to Stay Hopeful When Things Are Hard?

Waiting can feel like your life is on pause…

Through prayer and relying on God’s promises. At times, we can feel as if God is so far away and He does not hear our prayers. We wait and wait, and still there is no word from above. We believe waiting is wasting time.

The Bible says:

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

Waiting can feel like your life is on pause while everyone else moves forward. Other people are getting the answers, the opportunities, the healing, the relationships you’ve prayed for – and you’re still here, in the same place, with the same questions. It is easy to believe that nothing is happening, that time is being wasted, that God has somehow overlooked you.

But Isaiah 40:31 paints a different picture. Waiting upon the Lord is not the same as passively sitting in a corner, staring at the clock. It is a kind of leaning in-turning your face toward Him, even when He seems silent; holding onot Him, even when you don’t see what He’s doing. This kind of waiting is not empty; it is the place where He promises to renew your strength.

What do you do when you are waiting on God for an answer? Do you wait with hope? Do you beg Him every day for the answer? Do you cry hard thinking He will have pity on you? Or do you rest in His promise of faith?

Drop me a line, and let’s talk. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Next post on hope will continue soon, keep an eye open.

Trust in the Lord and ask Him for all your needs.

Whisper a prayer  of believing and trust –

In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust. I call on thee and there is no one like thee. Thou art the God of all and above all, mighty in power and wisdom who can never fail or change.

Hear my cry and come in as I wait for thee.

And the Lord answers saying, “Fear not; for you shall not be ashamed.”

(Adapted from Psalm 31 verse 1, Romans 10 verse 11)

The Lord is:

  • My rock
  • My fortress
  • My Deliverer
  • My God
  • My strength
  • My buckler
  • The horn of my salvation
  • My high tower

He is altogether lovely. (Psalm 18 verse 2 and Solomon 5 verse 16)

By accepting Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we receive the gift of eternal life.

Consider and hear me, O Lord my God. Psalm 13 verse 3

Someone commented on the grace of God, saying it’s something we don’t deserve. It’s true. The God of the universe has so much love that He gave His only son to save us from sin. He wants us all to be saved and go back to Him. By accepting Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we receive the gift of eternal life. Christ died for us, the undeserving, to reconcile us with God. This is an undeserved gift. (1 Peter 3:18-22)

In God we trust.

If God be for you then who can be against you?

Sometimes, when things go wrong, and those around you rise up in false witness against you, discouragement sets in, and depression drives you into distress. Remember, those who seek to discredit you will not last. Their vain, brief victories will end. When God is for you, no one can be against you. ”The Lord is king forever and ever. The Lord hast heard the desire of the humble. In the Lord, put your trust.” Psalms 10 and 11.

O our God, wilt thou not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee. 2 Chronicles 20 verse 12 – from Zoom Meeting – S. Martin

  • Prayer of Jehoshaphat before confronted by enemies.
  • We have no power on our own and do not know what to do, but our eyes are on the LORD, and we should not be afraid.
  • Look to the Lord; he is faithful.
  • We praise him for all that is past and trust him for that is to come

The Lord is our hope

Lord Jesus is our only real hope. – from New Year’s Zoom Meeting – K. Martin.

Call unto me, and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33, verse 3

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

And he said unto him, Fear not for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee and that also Saul my father knoweth. 1 Samuel 23 verse 17.

It is sad that Jonathan, Saul’s son, chose the wrong side and died with his father instead of standing at King David’s side. One mistake can lead to dire consequences. Say as Joshua did: choose today whom you will serve, but for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Be strong and of good courage.

Once you experience God’s goodness, you can go on to encourage others.

And Joshua said unto them, Fear not; nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight. Joshua 10 verse 25.

For the Moment…#5

neither be thou dismayed.

Have not I commended thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

  • Joshua 1 verse 9

God tenderly guides his children to safety.

Be brave, knowing he is with us wherever we go.
