That Constant Ringing in My Ears

There is no cure.

I hear the ringing, the buzzing, the clicking that noise sometimes throughout the day but it happens mostly at night before bed when everything is quiet.  This is called Tinnitus and many people young and old suffer from this condition.

I work as at a hearing clinic as a Hearing Specialist and I’ve noticed since the flu season began several people have visited the clinic with symptoms of tinnitus. Most are getting over the flu virus and report that the tinnitus was strongest when they were laid up with the flu and now they’re “better” the tinnitus is still present.

I know my tinnitus began with a virus and never went away even after I got better and that was over 10 years ago.  The ringing in my ears gets more prevalent when I am stressed or I’m lacking sleep and then calms down when I sleep better and take my vitamins.  That works for me so far, but it may not work for others.

At the clinic before I suggest any kind of solution to help the client with tinnitus, I take a case history and I do a full hearing assessment.  You see tinnitus and hearing loss go hand and hand but there is also a percentage of people suffering from tinnitus who have no hearing loss.

Step #1  get your hearing tested by a registered Audiologist or a Hearing Instrument Practitioner.  These people can help you and guide in the right direction.

Recently, I learned of a tinnitus workshop at Sunnybrook Hospital and check out their website called Your Health Matters @ health.sunnybrook.ca/wellness/tinnitus-ringing-ears/ This is a great resource.

I’ll write about Step #2 next time

Writing Journey

Yes, I am writing an outline for my new romantic suspense novel.  I will keep this blog informed and try to work on my website blog as well.

I worked hard yesterday for sometime developing characters, scenes and the plot.  My characters are taking a life of their own but it is all exciting. I am following several people on Twitter who are encouraging. I have a working schedule and will try hard to stick to it but I do have wiggle room.

Later and God bless

Problem with Social Media?

What is wrong with Social Media? Not enough time…

There is a big problem with social media today – not enough time.  Sure I started this blog with high hopes to continue.  I had topics and pics lined up and I was ready to go until…life happened. Yes, I do procrastinate but who doesn’t and now three years later I am sitting here with more things to do with my life but here I am finally writing.  Better later then never ever doing anything.

My inspiration was the course I started online from Northwestern University about Social Media.  It is excellent.  I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in marketing and social media @Coursera.org.

And just so I can make things straight my Etsy shop is up and running again.

Local Craft Show Makes Big This Year

The Made by Hand Show Spring 2013

Saturday April 20th is the 3rd Made by Hand Show at the Mississauga International Centre. This is a local event featuring artists and artisans from all over Ontario selling and demonstrating their one-of-a-kind arts or crafts.

Jacqueline Hunter the operator of the show, a new mom and an artisan herself, organized the first event in the spring of 2012.  150 vendors participated in that event and since then she has added a Fall show and this year hopes to add a Christmas showing.

This juried selected show is big this year highlighting over 190 vendors with a variety of items:

  • art
  • baby products
  • body products
  • baked goods
  • ceramic
  • jewelry
  • knitting
  • photography
  • woodworking
  • and much more…..

Under the sharp event planning skills of Jacqueline Hunter, there is no doubt that awareness with regards to the increasing numbers of vendors has grown but so has public awareness through multi media such as facebook and twitter and in local newspapers and local TV stations.  Customers can stroll from booth to booth, sample baked goods, get a demonstration on a skin care product or just Shop!!!!! There is a lot to choose and a lot to see.  There is even a face painting station so the kids are occupied and entertained.

Kudos to Ms.Hunter in a job will done. The show starts @ 11:00 and ends @5:00.  Tickets are available at the door and part of the proceeds goes to the charity Crafting for a cure.

Visit the show website for more details or for future vendor information: www.madebyhand.ca.
