Santa Claus or St. Nicholas was a transported legend from Dutch settlers to New York City in the 1600s. Saint Nicholas was a 4th century Greek Christian bishop who helped the poor and gave gifts to the needy.
Today, for some, Christmas is considered a material or commercial pass time, while for others, Christmas is a time of joy and giving. Spending time with loved ones far (virtually) or near (virtually) is a blessing.
Those who remember the less fortunate, the sick, and the shut-ins on this day of feasting, have a special blessing reserved for them.
Christmas is not a day of selfish endeavors, nor is it a time for only the young but for folk of all ages to enjoy both giving and receiving.
Yet, loneliness bites hardest on this day and New years day. So, for those who experience aloneness, loss, tragedy, poverty, or are bombarded by sad and dark memories, our thoughts and prayers must go out to them without prejudice.
“The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16
Blessed is he that considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.
The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive, and he shall be blessed upon the earth, and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
