Destress and Breathe

easy abdominal breathing technique

Relax is a verb, an action word meaning to make or become less tense or anxious. Learning to step back from a painful or stressful situation takes practice.  Taking a few minutes to be mindful of your surrounding circumstances is difficult, especially when the stress from these circumstances, threatens to zoom out of control.

How to handle stress?

Stop and squeeze into your busy day a 10 minute appointment.  This is a private session with yourself to relax.  Try some breathing exercises. They help to calm the mind and the body.

Easy Abdominal Breathing Technique

  1. Sitting or lying in a comfortable position, close your eyes, relax your shoulders and allow any tension in your muscles to disappear if at all possible.
  2. Inhale deeply and slowly through your nose. Your belly should expand whilst your chest rises very little. If it helps, you can put your hand on your bellow and feel the inhaled The breath pushing that hand up.
  3. Exhale slowly through your mouth. Keeping your jaw relaxed, purse your lips as you blow, though remember to keep the exhale nice and gentle. Again, you can keep your hand on your stomach and very lightly push down as you exhale.
  4. Repeat for several minutes until you feel calm again. ( Lifehack: Mental Wellness by Chris Skoyler)

These exercises are even good when you experience tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Studies are showing that tinnitus within these Covid 19 times is on the rise. Relaxing is a very simple technique to practice and it can help to reduce tinnitus.

Take that 10 minute break.

The Bible says, casting all your cares upon him (the Lord) for he (the Lord) cares for you”. 1 Peter 5 verse 7

While Waiting for Normal Again

best to stop stressing out and relax because this too will pass

“In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3 verse 6

Hey, while the world is still tackling this pandemic and your favorite places are closed, or you can’t meet with family or friends, it is best to stop stressing out and relax, because this too will pass.

We all experience stress in life, because it is a normal part of life.  Stress is the body’s reaction to any change that requires an adjustment. (Clevelandclinic.org) The body can react physically, mentally or emotionally.  Physically, the heart and blood pressure can increase, emotionally or mentally, anger or depression can set in.  Most reactions can leave a negative impact on the body which can be temporary or long term, leading a person to seek some kind of treatment, good or bad.

This pandemic is taking a toll on some people. A year long stressor like this breaks down the mind and body, chipping away slowly, daily, moment by moment until there is nothing left that is familiar or even precious.

Every person deals with stress differently. Some people like to talk things out; there are counsellors or help lines to call and connect with a live voice, a person, a stranger who can listen.  Others like to exercise by going for a walk or a run or exercising indoors.  While some like to connect to others via computer, text or virtual meetings or just by calling someone to chat or others still like to playing games, reading a book, write a letter(snail mail) or sleeping, the list goes on.

No matter the issue, the goal of this blog is to help you deal with stress positively, in a fun, simple and affordable way.

New Year – Hope

Forasmuch as you know your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Adapted from the KJV

Now comes the weeping,

then the glad reaping,

Now comes the labour in the Lord

then the reward. – by Anon

2021 is a new year, another chance to start fresh with a so called clean slate. Although this year is new, the hardships, stress and pain of 2020 are old and will not so easily disappear but will linger. Nevertheless, we can rest assure there is HOPE as we pray for something better.

Hope does not make us ashamed.

Carry- on Tinnitus Step#2

Step #2

Now that you’ve seen the Audiologist or the Hearing Instrument Specialist and they’ve given you a hearing test what is there left to do?

Talk…..

The hearing professional will discuss the results of the hearing test.  You may or may not have hearing loss but you may still suffer from tinnitus.

How is that possible?

Don’t people with hearing loss all have tinnitus?

It is true about 90% of people with tinnitus also have hearing loss and tinnitus affects 1 in 5 people. What about the rest of us?

Let’s work backwards with some basic information about tinnitus.

Tinnitus or some pronounce it tin-eye-tus or tin-a-tus is not a disease but a symptom resulting from a number of causes most common is hearing loss but others are: ear infections, hearing loss, constant exposure to loud noises, brain tumor, emotional stress, exposure to certain medication , head or neck injury, hypertension, heart disease and earwax to name a few.

There are different types of tinnitus: subjective, objective and pulsatile.  Subjective is the most frequent type and it is explained as hearing sound when there is no external sound and it can present itself as ringing, clicking, hissing or buzzing; some people even experience hearing music.

Tinnitus also triggers an emotional response in each individual in unique portions. In other words, tinnitus affects everyone differently and their reactions are all different. Some people can ignore the noise in their ears, whereas others are frustrated and even can be emotionally distraught. No two people are the same.

So where do you go from here?

Counselling is needed and your hearing professional is going to be able to help you with that.
