We stand on the threshold of a new year looking inward for strength and forward for hope, in the midst of our quivering apprehension and excitement.
We fear the future when we can’t see clearly the path that is set before us. Still without knowing what this new year will bring, we can rest in the knowledge and assurance of God promises.
He will never leave us or forsake us. His promises are real. His word is true.
We have nothing to worry about. We have nothing to fear because God is in control.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day. Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Psalm 91 verses 5 to 7.
God loved me. He gave the One who was most precious to Him, His only son. And the Son came willingly to do His Father’s will by taking my place in judgment in exchange for my freedom. Who am I that God, the Creator, the Most Holy God, should think about me? I can’t say what He saw in me that his only son should die for me. I bow my head and my heart before my God. I praise the Father and the Son. I fall on my knees in joyful Hallelujah. He saw me. He sees me. He knows me.
From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised. Psalm 113 verse 3
I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name forever and ever. Psalm 145 verse 1.
We think of Him, who in willing obedience to the Father came to earth to die.
The Son of God who was there in eternity past left it all for us that we might be enriched.
Made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, ( he emptied himself), and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, ( his own creation), he humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
It does not end here…
But we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Don’t be afraid when things get overwhelming. God is not a halfway God; what He promises, He will fulfill. There is no adding to it or taking away from it. His ways are mysterious and sure. When we fall on our knees to pray for help and strength, God immediately goes to work. We have only to stop, believe and see the power of His loving kindness.
And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely show thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. 2 Samuel 9 verse 7.
King David extended kindness to his best friend’s son.
He gave without expectations. This is true kindness.
Fear them not…there shall not a man of them stand before thee
Yet To Be # 225
God is our helper.
He hears our cries before we call on His name.
He knows our needs and understands our every circumstance.
He is our God, full of compassion and plenteous in mercy.
He will never let us down.
And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not; for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee. Joshua 10 verse 8
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and angels and have not charity I am become as a sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.”
I may be articulate but, If there is no love behind my speeches, then they are mere words.
Though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains and have not charity, I am nothing.
I may be intelligent and spiritual in my approach to life, but if I do this all without love; I am nothing and my deeds are for nought.
Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profits me nothing.
I give to the poor, help those in need, but I do it for recognition, it is all for nothing if it is done without love.
Counting the ways of love:
True love shows patience despite troubles, is kind, is not fueled by envy, is not evil, does not look for self-praise, behaves with propriety, is not selfish, endures all, hopes for the best, is happy with doing what is right, and love never fails.
